Dr. Jessie and David Peterson
The creative and professional sides of constructing languages will be introduced Thursday, March 6, in McEwen Hall Room 209.
Dr. Jessie Peterson and David Peterson, professional conlangers who have created languages for television shows and films, will present the at 4 p.m. that is free and open to the public.
They have created languages for Dune: Part Two, Pixars Elemental, Netflixs Shadow and Bone, Peacocks Vampire Academy and HBOs Game of Thrones, among other film and television franchises.
Jessie Peterson has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a professor of linguistics at Stephen F. Austin State University for 13 years, where she created a conlanging course and taught students how to construct a language from the ground up. She now works full-time with her partner and husband, David, author of The Art of Language Invention and creator of the languages used by the nomadic races of Dothraki and Valyrians for HBOs Game of Thrones, as well as other languages.
The couple also hosts a weekly livestream, LangTime Studio on YouTube, where they create new languages from scratch and share the process.
